Приєднався 8 вер 2011
The Chieftain (Real name Nicholas Moran) is an amateur historian and Wargaming America's resident tanker. Here the emphasis is on long-form, in-depth videos, with a priority on getting inside vehicles to gain the 'human factors' evaluation of things from the end user's perspective as well as other materials sourced from archives.

Inside the Chieftain's Hatch: Ford Mk VI
During The Emergency (WW2 to most of the world), Ireland realised it needed to suddenly expand its armed forces, and it turned to local industry to meet the needs. Originally intended merely for airfield defense, the first series of conversions from civilian truck chassis proved to be surprisingly capable, and orders went out for additional armored cars to be converted. The MkVI was the last of these, with a surprisingly long service life.

Does the Chieftain Fit Into.... a Bv 202?

Bv 202 is a Swedish articulated amphibious tracked vehicle designed for operation in particular in snowy conditions or soft ground. This one also is at the Ontario Regiment Museum. But you don't care about that. What you care about is if I fit in it or not. Facebook: TheChieftainArmor Twitter...erm.. X: Chieftain_armor Instagram: chieftain_moran And TikTo...

The last of our major videos from the series filmed in Belgium, we finish with an upgrade of a WW2 -design carrier with a 90mm low pressure MECAR gun. This vehicle found in the Royal Military Museum in Brussels. This is the first batch of filming where I have invested in bringing along a cameraman/editor, goes by FixItInPost, and as you can imagine, he doesn't work for free. Any financial suppo...

The Belgian T-13 was a self propelled anti-tank gun combining a Vickers Carden-Lloyd chassis with the excellent Belgian 47mm, making it the most dangerous vehicle to armor in the Belgian inventory in the late 1930s. This, the only one which exists, is found at the Royal Military Museum in Brussels. This is the first batch of filming where I have invested in bringing along a cameraman/editor, go...
The Sultan CVR(T) Command Vehicle

One of the CVR(T) Variants Belgium used was the Sultan, the command track. Small and compact, but the one they had handy was fully equipped inside. We'll come back to the vehicle for a more in-depth look at some future point, but this I thought was interesting enough. Belgian Gunnery Training: Worm Boards and Prickers

Before putting rounds downrange, it is far more cost-efficient to do training with various aids which develop skills in tracking and laying. These days, of course, we have computers and other simulators to help us do the job, but before then, or if you just want to save a bit of money, old-school techniques performed quite serviceably. The history of the Belgian Leopard and its variants

At a now-closed War Heritage Institute facility near Antwerp (They will be re-opening at another location), we get a tour firstly of the various leopard variants the Belgians used, and then look at one which has been partially disassembled to learn the components. Finally, we go for a spin. Belgian Linkies: warheritage.be/en belgiumbattlefield.be/ Facebook: TheChieftainArmor Twitte...

As fellow Irishman I fully appreciated this video.
Incredible Discussion Beautiful Trivia Amazing Nerdiness Great Talks Thank You Good Man
Why, yes. It's a lovely little Emergency armored truck. Gotta pester a friend of mine now and have him design and 3D print it for me.
When fords worked
This thing is even worse than WW1 tanks LoL . Especially in department of quickly going in & out
Its so nice being able to fast forward through videos without needing to click on it. There is No inside footage on this vehicle!
Nice looking vehicle for what it is.
I love these Kubinka prototype videos... these things are like the Burgess Shale fossils for "what might have been"
Balance has got to be the worst excuse for mounting the drive sprocket and engine atoplosite ends. Look at the failed Canadian Bobcat APCof the 1950s. For balance, they mounted the engine in the nose and the drive sprocket at the rear. They were connected by a LOUD drive-waft that ran through the middle of the infantry compartment and a LOUD cross-shaft across the rear of the infantry compartment. The cross-shaft/differential forced the door-sill so high that it slowed infantry climbing in and out of the two doors. After repeated suspension failures during trials, the Bobcat was abandoned and the Canadian Army bought a fleet of M113s that they still use to this day.
For an update, as of the issuing of the design contracts, the Army says they intend to push the weight below 60 tons if they can (although that’s awfully ambitious). They will begin testing on an autoloader, and it does sound like they will be replacing the turret traverse with electric controls. Power plant and crew arrangements still seem very up in the air.
Seems very similar in concept to the Marmon-Herrington right down to the Ford chassis?
Was this for the 1968 Lemans? I can guess what the race strategy was but I don't recall the FIA's rules for adding ammunition during the race at pitstops.
The German tanks were fielded way too early. Remember, the Panther was not ready until 1965. They even changed the name. I started wondering about the claims about overengineering when someone used the Panther engine as an example. Maybach had removed metal from the engine and was criticised for it. The person didn't understand that this was a standard engine which was also used by the Tiger.
Ohhh man, is so lovely!!
Have you tried the ELC-EVEN, at Saumur? Visitors are allowed to get in it. That's the theory. If however you are six feet and solid build, then you will probably be stuck in it until somebody finds you.
Johnson's motor car???
Now there's a tune I've not heard in many, many years.
I thought we were all decended from giants!?
Crazy people think the Soviet’s made the first sloped armor.(originally I thought it was Germany but it appears not).
If you read about the military and it's weapons, they all come out and they don't do what was expected, so they modify(fix) it.
Why does the bow mg look like a deformed penis?
I would use the sling as a back rest.
Love how the hood acts as a bullet funnel directly into the windshield 😂
There are several chrome features "whose purpose you cannot fathom." It's rather simple actually. The purpose of those features... is to look cool. And it does.
It does look a little Hot Rodish from certain angles . in a Wacky Races sort of vibe .
When I was in Bradley school as a second mos. We were told about the anti air sight on top. But who said that was ever a great idea? Lol
Now we can all go modify our Ford trucks for fun.
That was painful to watch. Your Guide/ SME wasn't close to being prepared.
18:20 A Bob Semple Tank would be the holy grail, right?
ye, probably see them at St.Patrick's day parade
27 mins out of metal box with engine wheels and old 1909 water cooled mg. lol. Well done.
Ok, now I really want to rock up to Tesco in one of these.
Have you done anything about the Terminator support vehicle? If so I would like to hear your thoughts on it.
I just love the way the tank looks ❤
USD 500 Russia drone incoming! 😮
The one good thing out of the story that shouldn't be mentioned is that the country that everyone knows is using decent material. During the second decade of this century the lack of ready available infantry battalions to police the country has already been shown up. Any future for the Belgian Army is once again the regional attachment of large enough units to specific regions or towns, and thus also the maintenance of decent enough overal armament. Perhaps more permament militia based and spreading the tanks around a bit then too
Bring back the bench seats! You can fit people next to each other in full kit with weapons on the benches, even if facing inward, whereas the buckets require at least one butt cheek or leg to go numb. CATTLE CARS?!? *Fortunate Son starts playing*
I do want to make a reproduction bob semple at some point, i will let you know if i do.
Still way more ergonomic than a french tank.
I used to wonder if it was worth the ridicule to do yoga. You have shown me flexibility training is absolutely worth it. 😂
From the bit I could see of the fire extinguisher rack it looks like a carbon tetrachloride model which I have handled in the distant past of the 1950's before CO2 models came into use on a wide scale. We also had the big flip it over to use 5 gal models with water and a gas generator which activated when you flipped it over.
When I hear Ford Mk VI this is not the vehicle that comes to mind.
One would think that such an easily (and non latching) exterior handle would be bad in a crowd-control situation.
The emergency, by hell my cousin still has her granfathers emergency medal strangely though it's got 1939 to 1946 on it. Even more bizare sat watching this with a drop of Kilbeggan in my hand.
Dual rear tires mandate came down from...Dublin
My interpretation: The Chieftain knows a bonnet from a hood. It’s called dry humor.
Why didn't you drive it around town?
Perfect for the zombie apocalypse but not much else.
Would love to see a video on the AML series. Was always curious about them
as with many many other things any armor is better than none
This “hot rod” is cooler then cybertruck and I guess not as heavy
